Am I Psychic?
A lot of people ask this question: Am I psychic? If you’re asking this question, you probably have reason to. Have you had an experience or struggle with one of these 5 types of ‘clair’ abilities? Learn about each category and determine – does it sound familiar?
The Five Main Psychic Categories
There are many words floating around about psychic ability: Clairvoyant, empath, medium, telepath. These words, while useful, can mean so many things at the same time. One explanation could describe you, or an ability you believe you may have, but then another source describes something totally different. Which is which? The categories below help to define and focus the five main types of abilities.
- Clairvoyance, or clear seeing
- Clairsentience, or clear feeling
- Clairaudience, or clear hearing
- Claircognizance, or clear knowing
- Clairgustance, or clear smelling/taste
1. Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance is the ability to see, in the minds eye, future events, current events, past events or knowledge about a person, thing or event. The most important piece of that definition is that a clairvoyant sees images visually. You may be clairvoyant if you are a daydreamer, or if you’ve ever had a dream that has come to be true.
2. Clairsentience
People who are clairsentience are also called Empaths and there are at least 8 categories of empath, and maybe even more.
There are many aspects of this ability; Generally, that you are able to connect to how others are feeling, understand their emotional mood, and may even be impacted by people, animals and near by energies. Some empathic types are able to communicate with animals, plants and even machines. It can encompass telepathic understanding of people’s thoughts, or an instant knowledge of a person’s personality. Before developing this ability, many people associate it with gut feelings, bad feelings, or even not liking a person very much without even knowing them. Empaths at any stage can find themselves drained of energy, depressed and tired if they don’t take care to protect themselves.
As an empath, you may sense when a person is happy, sad, mad, frustrated, or in any other emotional state without them telling you, or appearing so on the outside. You may also be able to understand a person’s true intentions.
Empath types include:
- Nature empath – Communicates with plants, grass, water and all things natural.
- Animal empath – Communicates with dogs, cats, horses and all types of animals.
- Spirit empath – Communicates with the deceased.
- Mental empath – Hears the thoughts of others and has a keen understanding of the true personality of a person without knowing them
- Emotional empath – Is affected by the emotions of others. Deep feeling. May swing in extremes until balance is found through practiced discipline and knowledge of empathic gifts.
- Technopath – Understands and communicates with mechanical or technological objects, such as cars or computers.
- Physical empath – Heals other people just by being around them. Can be harnessed in the form of energetic or physical healing.
- Weather/Earth empath – Is affected physically and/or emotionally by weather systems or natural earth events, locally or globally.
3. Clairaudience
This is the ability of a person to hear the voice of a spirit or guide either in their mind, or out loud. Audio messages don’t always need to be in the form of a voice. If you are most able to hear psychic messages, they may come across as songs, or pieces of song with a message. Other indications of clairaudience could be an association of memories to certain songs that provide a message, or even audio clues that point toward messages, like a bird squawking over an important billboard.
4. Claircognizance
Claircognizance or clear knowing means that you have the ability to immediately know the truth about something without having any previous knowledge. This ability is often used with other abilities, but can be used alone as well. Many sources cite this as an Empath ability.
5. Clairgustance
Finally, we have Clairgustance or clear smelling/taste. Again, there are some varying definitions and explanations out there, but I have my own interpretation. This type of psychic ability is usually paired with the recognition of a memory with a certain taste or smell. In other words, it’s the ability to obtain knowledge based on a smell or taste memory. Ideally, and most often, this type of psychic ability is used in conjunction with one of the other types of abilities.
When people pass away that I know personally, this is usually the first thing that I notice – a particular and unique smell in the air, which I can immediately associate to them. It happens often for those I don’t know personally as well, and is a great way for spirits to wake up a person to pay attention to them. Generally, other people around will not smell the same smell, even if it’s very strong to you.
